The next morning, Long Huan hurried to Yongfu Palace. Minjin, dressed in a jade green short jacket, sat in front of the house holding a warming stove, watching the snow fall. Chun Qiu stumbled over the thick layer of snow and quickly helped her inside, saying, "Your Majesty, why are you sitting out here in this cold weather?" 0

"Did Consort Chang cause a scene again about the Emperor staying overnight at Kun Ning Palace?" Minjin asked softly, allowing Chun Qiu to wrap her robe tightly around her as she lowered her gaze. 0

Chun Qiu's hands trembled slightly as she hesitated before speaking. "Consort Chang was vomiting all night. The physician checked on her this morning... and said it was morning sickness." 0

Minjin shivered at her words, tightening her grip on the warming stove. Long Huan had never liked her, and now with Consort Chang pregnant, it seemed that if she gave birth to a son, Minjin's days as the favored consort would be numbered. 0

It was truly laughable; embroidered quilt's warmth had barely faded, and he had already forgotten her. 0

But she was not someone who would easily give up her position! 0

"Later, you can take jade scepter to her as a token of my goodwill," Minjin instructed Chun Qiu, who stood there in a daze. 0

Long Huan rarely visited Palace of Gathered Elegance; when he did come, it was usually to argue with her. 0

Now that Consort Chang was pregnant, he certainly wouldn't come again. Time passed quickly, and soon it was mid-April. 0

Minjin saw Consort Chang again at the beginning of May in the Imperial Garden, where flowers bloomed vibrantly, creating a lively scene. 0

Minjin had prepared some tea and snacks to bring to the pavilion when she unexpectedly encountered Consort Chang. After not seeing her for some time, she noticed that Consort Chang no longer looked as pale as before; her complexion had taken on a rosy hue due to her pregnancy. 0

"Your Majesty, the Empress." As soon as Consort Chang saw her, she immediately bent down with difficulty to pay her respects. Minjin glanced at her slightly rounded belly and said, "You may rise." 0

"I often hear people say that a pointed belly means a boy is on the way, while a round one likely indicates a girl. Your belly looks quite healthy, Sister." Minjin stood up and spoke with a hint of intention. 0

"Indeed, but the Emperor has said he would be happy with either a prince or a princess." Consort Chang's heart sank for a moment, and she hurriedly agreed. 0

Upon hearing this, Minjin felt a wave of annoyance. Consort Chang was already pregnant, yet her obsequiousness was merely out of fear that the child in her womb might not survive. 0

On the day imperial Son was born, Minjin could already imagine how insidiously she would step on her. 0

"Oh, how much the Emperor dotes on you. However, I have always heard that in the depths of the palace, it is not good for a fetus to grow too large; one careless move could lead to miscarriage. I wonder if you have heard this legend?" Minjin's lips curled into a slight smile. 0

Consort Chang's eyes widened in shock as her right hand unconsciously rested on her rounded belly. 0

"I'm afraid my condition might disturb your enjoyment, so I shall take my leave first." Consort Chang cleared her throat, yet there was still a tremor in her voice. 0

Minjin nodded in acknowledgment of her departure. As Consort Chang performed her curtsy and turned to leave, she inadvertently pulled at the jade beads on her wrist, causing them to scatter across the floor. Just then, Consort Chang stepped awkwardly on one of them. 0

Her footing faltered, and she stumbled and fell. 0

"Your Majesty!" The palace maids below cried out in terror. When Minjin's gaze fell upon the agonized Consort Chang on the ground and the blood pooling beneath her skirts, a wicked smile curved at the corner of her mouth, as enchanting as that blood. 0

Though she knew full well that she had just caused a great disaster! 0

Watching the maids and physicians coming in and out of Yongfu Palace, Minjin felt restless. 0

But her only concern was whether the child was dead or alive. Could Consort Chang save him? 0
