The next day, as dawn broke, Li Qiang returned home from the Gourd Shed, washed up, and changed into a clean set of clothes.
Today, a Commissioner was coming to the village to assist with planting, and Aunt Yulan had called on him for help. Naturally, he couldn't afford to be negligent.
“Qiang Zi, why are you up so early?” Li Yufeng asked as she stepped out of the house, having heard the commotion caused by Li Qiang.
Li Qiang had already mentioned his plans to help in the village to Li Yufeng. Initially, she was reluctant to let him go; after all, he had just entered high school, and she felt it wasn't appropriate for someone his age to be working.
However, Li Qiang was determined to go. He had promised Aunt Yulan that he would help, and if he were to break that promise today, how would Aunt Yulan view him in the future?
Seeing his resolute attitude, Li Yufeng decided not to oppose him any longer.
“Ha ha, Aunt, I’m just excited about making some money today! This is my first time earning money in my life. I’ll make even more in the future to support you!” Li Qiang said with a cheerful smile. He then remembered that the watermelons in the field were ripe and added, “Aunt, all the watermelons are ready! We can sell them tomorrow.”
“Really? They’re all ripe?” Li Yufeng was a bit incredulous; it seemed too early for the watermelons to be ready. After a moment of thought, she nodded and said, “Alright then. I’ll go pick some later. We can head to the county together tomorrow morning to sell them.”
As they joyfully discussed their plans, Yang Yulan's voice came from outside the door. “Qiang Zi, are you up?”
“Oh, it must be Aunt Yulan! Qiang Zi is having breakfast,” Li Yufeng said with a smile as she walked toward the gate. “Yulan, have you eaten yet? If not, come join us!”
Yang Yulan smiled slightly and replied, “Thank you! I’ve already eaten at home.”
“Oh, then come in and sit for a while!” Li Yufeng invited eagerly. She was gentle by nature and always treated others kindly; since Yang Yulan had her family’s best interests at heart, she naturally remembered her kindness.
“Aunt Yulan, you’re really early!” Before Li Yufeng could finish her invitation, Li Qiang came over from inside while wiping his mouth.
Yang Yulan smiled at Li Yufeng and said, “Since Qiang Zi is here, I won’t intrude any longer.”
Yang Yulan was still some distance away from Nanping Village when she arrived at Li Qiang's home, naturally there to pick him up for their trip.
"Aunt, do you know who that Commissioner is who's coming today?" Li Qiang sat in the back of Yang Yulan's car, his mind restless. He wanted to use his abilities to catch a glimpse of Aunt Yulan's alluring figure, but he ultimately held back. After all, Aunt Yulan was a good person, and he didn't want to be disrespectful.
"I heard she's a female college student. She might have some connections in her family, coming here to gain some experience and pave the way for her future," Yang Yulan speculated. Nanping Village was quite poor, almost destitute.
Of course, being poor had its advantages; when one achieved even a little success, it stood out remarkably. Once there were achievements, it would be easy to earn recognition later.
Li Qiang didn't understand the underlying motives behind it all, but he did take note that the newcomer was a woman.
This fact pleased him greatly; after all, she was a college student. Wow, that was quite impressive!
He wondered what she looked like and whether she was as beautiful as Aunt Yu Feng and Aunt Yulan.
"Aunt, aren't there many people in the village? Why are you the one doing this hard work?" Li Qiang thought it unfair for Yang Yulan to be burdened with such tasks. His grandfather had always said that Zhu Jiarong only knew how to indulge himself while letting someone as delicate and beautiful as Aunt Yulan do the heavy lifting. No wonder he struggled in that area; it seemed he had racked up too many bad deeds.
While Li Qiang felt indignant on Yang Yulan's behalf, she was preoccupied with another thought. Remembering what her husband had discussed with her last night filled her heart with shyness.
"Aunt? Are you... okay?" Li Qiang noticed Yang Yulan's silence and his voice faltered. Had he touched on something painful for her? It made sense; he had a big mouth. Surely Aunt Yulan must be troubled by this matter too. After all, they were both officials—why could one indulge while the other had to toil? It was an unpleasant situation for anyone.
"Ah? I... I'm fine!" Yang Yulan was startled by Li Qiang's words, cold sweat forming on her forehead. "By the way, Qiang Zi, can I ask you something?"
Li Qiang nodded eagerly. "Sure, Aunt! Just ask away; I'll answer you honestly!" He patted his chest as if to make a promise.
Though Li Qiang responded readily, Yang Yulan still felt a twinge of fear.
Her husband had lost his ability below due to that car accident, and at that time, they had decided not to have children because of work. Now, as Yang Yulan was getting older, the pressure of not having children in the countryside weighed heavily on her. It wasn't just about being gossiped about behind her back; the real concern was the loneliness in old age without a child to care for her.
Borrowing sperm!
This was a suggestion made by Yang Yulan's husband, and when she first heard it, she immediately dismissed it. She was not a promiscuous woman, and such a thing felt utterly shameful.
However, in recent days, her husband had brought up the topic more frequently. Last night, he even knelt before her, pleading for her to sleep with another man to conceive a child, promising that once she was pregnant, they would raise the child as their own.
A man kneeling is a rare sight. Finally, Yang Yulan relented.
But who could she find? She thought long and hard. The men in the village were either simple farmers or dirty men like Zhu Jiarong. After considering all her options and finding none suitable, an idea suddenly struck her mind. She recalled seeing something bulging in Li Qiang's pants when she visited him yesterday evening...
"Aunt, is there something troubling you? Is your husband bullying you? Tell me, and I'll go beat him up!" Li Qiang exclaimed as he jumped out of the back seat of Yang Yulan's car, his face filled with anger. How dare he bully a woman!
Seeing his agitation, Yang Yulan quickly stopped him and said, "It's not like that... it's something else!" With that, she glanced at Li Qiang, and her fair face flushed bright red.
Li Qiang was taken aback by her rosy cheeks and soon recognized the familiar expression on her face; he had seen it on Aunt Xue Mei and Aunt Yu Zhen before.
It was a look of desire!
Thinking about it made Li Qiang's heart race. He swallowed hard and boldly asked, "Aunt, are you thinking about men?"
