Before he could finish, a commotion erupted outside. Someone shouted, "Catch him! That madman is running this way!"
Liu Ying rushed to the window and saw Xu Yuan darting across the rooftop, evading several soldiers who were in hot pursuit. His movements were swift and precise; there was no sign of madness about him.
At that moment, Xu Yuan seemed to sense something and glanced back. Their eyes met, and Liu Ying clearly saw a bittersweet smile tugging at his lips.
In that instant, she suddenly understood Zhao Mingyuan's words. The choice before her was not just about one person's life; it was also about a deeply buried truth. And Xu Yuan was not only the one who needed protection but also the key to that truth.
"Miss!" A Fu hurried over, breathless. "Lord Zhang has ordered you to go to the Council Hall immediately. He said..." He paused for a moment, "Lord Zhou has sent someone to investigate your background."
Liu Ying looked in the direction where Xu Yuan had disappeared, slowly tightening her grip on the Bronze Fragment in her hand. Time was running out; she had to make a choice before Qixi.
