The moonlight flowed like water as Liu Ying stood alone atop the Observatory. The Bronze Fragment in her hand glimmered softly under the moonlight, its patterns faintly visible. She recalled Xu Yuan's words, "Just like when we were children," and ripples stirred in her heart. Was she the little girl who had handed him water all those years ago?
"Miss," A Fu called softly, "Lord Zhang has sent someone to inquire about the preparations for tomorrow's Qixi calculations."
Liu Ying came back to her senses, looking at the documents in her hand. On her desk lay the birth dates of various young ladies, with Chu Yuyan's name prominently at the top.
"A Fu," she suddenly spoke, "if a prophecy could change a person's fate, how should that person live with such a change?"
A Fu was taken aback. "Miss, what do you mean…?"
"Nothing." Liu Ying shook her head and gazed toward the horizon. "You're right; the most important thing now is the Qixi calculations."
Yet deep down, she knew this was far from a simple calculation. It was clearly a choice between justice and personal feelings. If she chose to pursue the truth, it would surely bring trouble to Qintian Observatory; if she chose to protect herself, how could she face Xu Yuan and her grandfather's expectations?
"Master Liu." Zhao Mingyuan's voice suddenly broke through her thoughts. "It's late and damp; shall we talk in the duty room?"
Inside the duty room, Zhao Mingyuan brewed a pot of tea. "I just visited the library and discovered something interesting."
"Oh?"
"A page from the archives of Twenty Years Ago has been torn out," Zhao Mingyuan said meaningfully. "That page recorded your grandfather's last conversation with Xu Shu."
Liu Ying's heart sank. "Why are you telling me this, Lord Zhao?"
"Because I found this." Zhao Mingyuan took out a yellowed piece of paper from his sleeve. "This is a handwritten note left by your grandfather: 'Heaven's will is hard to defy, but human hearts can change. May this mirror reveal the truth.'"
Liu Ying took the paper and saw another line of small text on the back: "The mirror is divided into four pieces; the truth will become clear. The first represents power, the second righteousness, the third emotion, and the fourth heavenly principle."
"This..." She suddenly understood. "Could it be that the four fragments of the Bronze Mirror..."
"Exactly." Zhao Mingyuan nodded. "Zhou Hongzheng holds one that represents power; this piece in your hand represents righteousness; the one Xu Yuan gave you represents emotion. As for the last piece..."
"Where is it?"
Zhao Mingyuan did not answer but instead looked out the window. "Dawn is approaching. Qixi is near; you must think carefully. This is not just a calculation; it's a choice."
"I understand." Liu Ying stood up. "Thank you for your guidance, Lord Zhao."
Stepping out of the duty room, she was greeted by the faint morning light. She looked up at the sky and saw the Morning Star shining brightly on the horizon. Its radiance seemed to guide her path.
Indeed, fate has always been a matter of choice. Twenty Years Ago, her grandfather chose justice; now it was her turn to make a choice.
Returning to her desk, Liu Ying picked up her brush and wrote: To Lord Zhang of Qintian Observatory:
"This humble official humbly requests that on the day of Qixi, a platform be set up beneath the Purple Forbidden Enclosure. This act not only aligns with the heavenly timing but also reveals the will of the heavens..."
After finishing her memorial, she took out the two Bronze Fragments. Under the moonlight, the patterns on the fragments gradually became clearer, and a complete outline of a design could be faintly seen.
Perhaps this was a guide from fate. Just like that bowl of water from years ago, an unintentional act that had unknowingly sown the seeds for today's reunion.
"Brother Yuan..." she whispered softly, surprised by her own call. Something within her quietly blossomed, like a bud under the moonlight, waiting patiently for the right moment to bloom under fate's guidance.
A hint of dawn appeared on the horizon, signaling that a new day was about to begin. And she knew that what awaited her would be an important choice concerning fate, truth, and the hearts of people.
