"Are you serious? I really want to know where you went and how you ended up meeting my mom and dad. Isn’t that a bit too coincidental? It’s as if you all had arranged something behind my back. Xu Shen replied, "Your imagination is running wild! There’s nothing going on between us. I just happened to run into them when I was out for a meal, and they were eating at the same restaurant. At this point, the friend shouted angrily, "Why did you make that decision for me? How I choose to honor my parents is my business, not yours! You spent so much of my money without even telling me a word while I wasn’t there!"
Xu Shen responded, "Even though you weren’t there, your parents were present the whole time. Besides, I hardly ate anything; they took most of it home with them. So you’re not losing out at all. In the end, it’s just a small amount of money spent to honor your parents—what’s wrong with that?
Are you really so reluctant to spend a little money on your own parents? If that’s the case, I can return all the money to you. It would be like me honoring them on your behalf. If you can accept that, then there’s nothing more to discuss. But if you’re unwilling to acknowledge that, then it’s not like the money went elsewhere.
When did you become so stingy? You weren’t like this before—especially not when second Sister was around. You used to be very generous with everything. Why have you turned so tight-fisted now? This isn’t like you at all! If this is how you are now, please don’t say you're my friend because I don’t associate with stingy people."
Hearing this made the friend feel utterly helpless. His monthly salary was completely out of his control, and his allowance was limited. Spending that money meant he would struggle for the rest of the month without knowing how he would manage his expenses. If only that money could have stayed in his wallet, he wouldn’t be worried about the upcoming month at all. But now he found himself in a situation where all his pocket money had been spent on a single meal, leaving him anxious about how he would get through the next thirty days.
