As soon as the words fell, everyone was taken aback.
Lan Ying looked utterly astonished. "How could that be?"
"How could it not be? I am her husband, Shen Chi. What did you just say? That my daughter-in-law seduced your boyfriend?" Shen Chi's voice turned icy as he narrowed his eyes.
He was already handsome, with sharp brows and phoenix-like eyes, a high nose and thin lips that exuded an air of menace and disdain. Just a glance from him could freeze someone in place; his powerful aura made him irresistibly attractive.
Lan Ying's face was filled with disbelief, and she stammered, "I—"
Before she could finish, Shen Chi had already grabbed her by the collar and pulled her away. "Your boyfriend, is it him?"
The crowd gasped in shock, while Lan Ying panicked. "Stop it! Let him go!"
"What are you doing, Shen Chi?" Su Mingxian exclaimed, rushing to intervene but was caught by Shen Chi's firm grip. His expression was cold as he said, "What am I doing? I'm making things clear. My woman is not someone anyone can covet."
His words rang out loudly, leaving everyone stunned in place.
If this had happened before, people might have whispered behind their backs, but now that Shen Chi had appeared, all those rumors were instantly shattered.
Su Mingxian must have been foolish to ignore a man as handsome and commanding as Shen Chi and instead associate with a poor boy like Wang Daguo.
In comparison, Shen Chi was the clear winner, and the rumors attacking Su Mingxian fell apart on their own.
“What's this? Shen Chi is coming? How could he come?” Wang Fang exclaimed in shock. “It's not even the Dragon Boat Festival yet; what does he want?”
Zheng Xiuzhi wore a gloomy expression. “How would I know?”
She regretted her words deeply; if it weren't for her big mouth, she wouldn't have gotten into this mess.
“Do you really not know? Zheng Xiuzhi, don’t forget who’s responsible for all this,” Wang Fang retorted, her frustration boiling over. “Don’t think I’m foolish. If it weren’t for your Boss Ma, I wouldn’t believe that woman with the surname Lan could pull this off!”
“You—” Zheng Xiuzhi was about to argue back when a loud banging on the door interrupted her.
“Wang! Zheng! Get out here, you bunch of frauds!” Lan Ying shouted, followed by a series of heavy knocks on the door. “Didn’t you say Su Mingxian’s man had already abandoned her? Then what’s going on with Shen Chi?”
“And you said my Da Guo was fooling around with her day and night, losing his job. You just want me to make a scene and embarrass myself so that Wang Daguo will break up with me, right? Then you can introduce your daughter to him? No way!” Lan Ying was furious, banging on the door and cursing. “Are you heartless? To pave the way for your daughter, you’d even put a green hat on your own nephew and slander your own niece-in-law as unfaithful, calling those two kids bastards? Are you even human? You’re scum, despicable! You want to harm me? Not a chance! If you don’t give me an explanation today, I won’t let this go.”
Lan Ying continued to pound on the door, crying and cursing. Wang Daguo hurriedly tried to calm her down. “A Ying, just let it go.”
“Why should I let it go?” Lan Ying cried even harder. “Da Guo, I’ve truly been deceived by them! They’re Su Mingxian’s in-laws; how can I not believe them when they speak so poorly of her? They’ve ruined me!”
Wang Fang would never admit to any wrongdoing, but Lan Ying was determined to win back Wang Daguo's heart and wouldn’t let this go easily. The scene outside the Ruan Family's door was chaotic, with commotion escalating in waves throughout the day.
At that moment, sitting in Su Mingxian's courtyard, Shen Chi heard everything clearly, and his expression turned extremely grim.
