Xu Yuan's figure flashed, and the feathered arrow whizzed past him. In that critical moment, Liu Ying's Bronze Mirror suddenly reflected a cold light, shooting straight towards the mountainside.
With a loud crack, the accumulated snow shifted, causing several massive rocks to tumble down, crashing into the hiding place of their ambush.
"Good!" Xu Yuan's eyes lit up. "This mirror is indeed peculiar. Liu Ying, follow me!" He said as he wrapped his arm around her waist and urged his horse towards a nearby cave. Li Hu understood immediately and quickly set up defenses at the cave entrance.
Inside the cave, which was dry and sheltered from the wind, Xu Yuan took out a fire starter to light a torch. Liu Ying carefully examined her surroundings and noticed that the cave walls were engraved with Celestial Patterns.
"What is this..." Liu Ying leaned in for a closer look. "The trajectories of The Purple Forbidden Enclosure and Tian Shiyuan?"
"Exactly," Xu Yuan pointed to a particular engraving. "I discovered this cave when I sought refuge here years ago. These Celestial Patterns must have been used by Ancient Border Soldiers to deduce military situations."
Liu Ying took out her Bronze Mirror and held it up against the patterns on the wall. "Look, this trajectory perfectly matches the engravings in the mirror!"
Xu Yuan pondered thoughtfully. "Could it be that this mirror is meant to be used in conjunction with these Star Charts?"
Outside, a cacophony of battle cries erupted. Liu Ying, however, was too engrossed to pay much attention; she spread out her Astronomical Notebook and quickly began recording the patterns on the cave wall.
"Strange..." she murmured to herself. "These celestial arrangements seem to hint at an important node."
Xu Yuan leaned closer to see what she was writing. "Are you suggesting that the enemy's movements are related to celestial phenomena?"
"Yes!" Liu Ying's eyes sparkled with realization. "Look here, when the guest star enters Tian Shiyuan, it corresponds exactly with the timing of the Rebels' actions. And the changes in The Purple Forbidden Enclosure..." She suddenly paused.
"What’s wrong?"
"Xu Yuan," Liu Ying's expression turned grave, "I've figured it out. These people lying in ambush here today did not do so on a whim. They are waiting for a specific moment!"
"What moment?"
"The third quarter of Shen Time!" Liu Ying pointed at her Notebook. "At that time, Venus will briefly appear, forming a 'Heavenly Net' effect. This is when they intend to strike!"
Xu Yuan's eyes gleamed with insight. "No wonder they have been holding back. What time is it now?"
"It's almost Shen Time," Liu Ying replied as she checked her Star Chart again. "However, they have miscalculated one thing."
"What is it?"
"Venus will indeed appear at the third quarter of Shen Time, but simultaneously there will be unusual movements within The Purple Forbidden Enclosure." Liu Ying pointed at a specific star track. "Look here, when the two polarities intersect, it will actually disrupt their Heavenly Net strategy!"
Just then, Li Hu's voice called from outside: "My lord, the enemy has begun to move!"
Xu Yuan and Liu Ying exchanged glances, both understanding that it was time for action.
"Li Hu!" Xu Yuan said in a deep voice, "Order everyone to prepare for a breakout!"
"Wait!" Liu Ying suddenly pointed at the top of the cave. "Look there!"
A beam of light filtered through a crack at the cave's ceiling. Liu Ying raised the Bronze Mirror, and under the sunlight, a strange pattern suddenly appeared on its surface.
"What is this...?" Xu Yuan scrutinized it closely. "A topographic map?"
"Not just that," Liu Ying said excitedly. "These patterns correspond exactly with the Star Chart in the cave. And here..." She pointed to a specific spot. "Look, there's a secret passage that can lead us right behind the enemy!"
The sounds of battle outside grew closer. Xu Yuan made a quick decision: "Li Hu, have three brothers continue feigning an attack at the entrance while you take the rest and follow me!"
Thus, under Liu Ying's guidance, they stealthily made their way to the entrance of the secret passage. Just as the last person entered, the distant chime of Shen Time echoed through the air.
With a thunderous rumble, the cave suddenly shook. Liu Ying glanced up at the crack in the ceiling; Venus indeed shone for a moment before being obscured by thick clouds.
Meanwhile, Xu Yuan led his men through the secret passage to flank the enemy, catching them completely off guard. By sunset, the battle had come to an end.
"My lord!" Li Hu ran over excitedly. "We found this on one of the bandits!"
It was a sealed letter that read, "Shen Time strikes, and Tian Luo will surely fall." The handwriting unmistakably belonged to remnants of the Zhou Party.
Xu Yuan glanced at Liu Ying. "These people were indeed well-prepared. I just didn't expect them to have some knowledge of astronomy and fate."
"But in the end, they miscalculated," Liu Ying said as she lifted the Bronze Mirror. The fading rays of sunset reflected off its surface, causing those strange patterns to gradually disappear, leaving behind a faint inscription.
Xu Yuan leaned in for a closer look, his brow furrowing immediately.
It read: "Tianshiying Xiao."
