Zhang Siwu was feeling restless, caught up in his thoughts about Li Yufeng and Qin Su Yan, when suddenly interrupted by Li Qiang. His mood soured instantly.
“Who the hell are you? Get lost! I’m in a good mood today, so I won’t hold it against you. But don’t blame me if I decide to be rude…”
Before Zhang Siwu could finish his sentence, he winced and stumbled back several meters, clutching his face.
“Get out of here, or I’ll beat you to death!” Li Qiang's fierce expression left both Qin Su Yan and Li Yufeng stunned. Especially Qin Su Yan; she never expected Li Qiang to be so strong. Even though it was just one punch, the fact that he could push someone much bigger than himself back so far shocked her.
“You little brat, just wait! You’ll regret this!”
Zhang Siwu was nothing more than a small-time thug who picked on the weak and feared the strong. He realized he had picked a fight with someone tough today and knew that continuing to provoke Li Qiang would only lead to trouble for himself. It was better to wait for another opportunity to deal with this annoying kid.
Li Qiang laughed and said, “Idiot, using such a cliché line? Even the Wolf from 'Big Bad Wolf' says he’ll be back!” After a pause, he grinned menacingly, “But when you come back, I’ll still knock you away again!”
“You… have guts!” Zhang Siwu didn’t expect this kid to be so arrogant. He pointed at Li Qiang while backing away and quickly turned to leave.
Watching the small-time thug retreat after being beaten by Li Qiang, Qin Su Yan couldn’t help but smile with delight. “Qiang Zi, you’re amazing! I didn’t see that coming!” She excitedly hugged Li Qiang, her soft curves brushing against his face, making his heart race. If it weren’t for Li Yufeng being around, he might have lost control and acted on his desires.
“Cough cough, sis, don’t do that; I can’t breathe!” Li Qiang’s face turned red as he struggled to suppress his inappropriate thoughts.
“Oh come on, you little rascal! You’re not happy with your sister hugging you? Just so you know, other boys beg me for hugs and I don’t even bother!” Qin Su Yan feigned a pout.
“Alright then, sis, hug me again!”
As they laughed and joked together, their bond seemed to grow stronger. Watching them share this moment brought a smile to my face as I quietly observed from the side.
"Alright, we've sold most of the watermelons, so let's head back!" Li Yufeng glanced at the few remaining watermelons in the cart and said. She was worried that the little thug might come back to cause trouble for Li Qiang.
"Aunt, are we not selling these last few watermelons?" Li Qiang looked at the remaining watermelons in confusion. After all, those watermelons represented money! Moreover, no one else was selling watermelons yet, and their price was quite high. Even these few would fetch over two hundred yuan.
Li Yufeng seemed to sense Li Qiang's thoughts and smiled, saying, "We're not selling them. We'll keep two for you to take home for your Sister Su Yan, and you can take the last one to Aunt Yulan's house. She takes good care of us, so we should show our gratitude, understand?"
Hearing Aunt Yufeng say this, Li Qiang nodded and replied, "Alright then, let's go back. Otherwise, the sun will get too hot, and it would be a shame to have you two beautiful ladies get sunburned!"
"You little brat, always joking around!" Li Yufeng couldn't help but roll her eyes at Li Qiang's playful demeanor, her expression filled with a charming allure.
"Hehe, Aunt Feng, this isn't just joking! I was watching closely earlier. That little punk was staring at you!" Qin Su Yan chimed in with a teasing tone.
"Go on, you two siblings are just ganging up on me, aren't you?" A faint blush crossed Li Yufeng's cheeks, adding to her charm. "Alright, enough of that; let's head back!" She quickly changed the subject, fearing that Li Qiang and Qin Su Yan would continue teasing her.
Li Qiang and Qin Su Yan exchanged glances and simultaneously made funny faces before heading back home.
"Qiang Zi, are you in high school?"
On the way back, Qin Su Yan suddenly remembered something and asked.
"Yes!" Li Qiang chuckled and said, "My Aunt said that knowledge is power! Besides, I don't want to spend my whole life in this small village!"
Qin Su Yan looked at Li Qiang and smiled slightly, a glimmer of approval in her eyes. A man may not have a good background, but he must have great ambitions.
What Qin Su Yan didn't know was that Li Qiang's underlying thought was that he didn't just want to stay in the countryside; he also wanted to go to the city and experience the beauty of urban women!
“Which grade are you in this year?”
“I just finished the high school entrance exam!”
“Really? How did you do?” Qin Su Yan's heart leaped with joy upon hearing this. She knew that her time in Nanping Village was just a temporary gilding; sooner or later, her mother would take her back up in a couple of months, or at most three.
Although their time together had been brief, Qin Su Yan felt as if she had known Li Qiang for a long time. This was what fate was about—some people might know each other for a lifetime yet feel as distant as strangers, while others could connect deeply with just a glance.
Despite their short acquaintance, Qin Su Yan genuinely thought that this village boy, Li Qiang, was quite remarkable. She had no younger brother and found herself wanting to treat Li Qiang as if he were one.
“Qiang Zi has done well; he got into the county's top school!” Li Yufeng couldn't help but feel a sense of pride when talking about his son's achievements.
Even though the villagers often spoke poorly of Li Qiang, his acceptance into the prestigious school brought a bit of glory to Li Yufeng.
“Is that so? The top school? That’s impressive!” Qin Su Yan exclaimed in surprise. She hadn’t realized that Li Qiang had the capability to get into such a school, especially given the poor educational conditions in the countryside. His achievement could only mean he was smart and ambitious! This made Qin Su Yan’s admiration for Li Qiang grow even stronger.
She felt that this boy had a bright future ahead of him!
The three of them made their way back home, which took them about an hour.
“Qiang Zi, when you get home, take a shower first, then take a watermelon over to Aunt Yulan's house…”
