Bai Hong truly lived up to expectations, galloping ahead with unmatched speed. Each of his strikes was merciless, aimed directly at his opponent's life. His adversary's eyes were nearly gouged out by his ferocity.
An elder from the Crab Clan rushed onto the stage, attempting to intervene and stop Bai Hong. Without hesitation, Bai Hong threw the elder to the ground and stomped on him twice. The members of the Crab Clan looked on in horror, their eyes wide with disbelief.
Yu Lan awkwardly explained, "Bai Hong has been growing recently; he’s just a bit stronger than before." The crowd's expressions softened slightly at her words.
She continued, "Although Bai Hong has been a bit mischievous, he is very obedient."
"When he returns, I’ll have him apologize to everyone."
"Which child isn’t a little naughty, right?" The crowd had varied expressions as they absorbed her words.
Just as silence fell over them, a beam of white light shot from my palm, hurtling straight toward Bai Hong on the stage. The moment it struck him, he became disoriented and fell to the ground, glaring angrily at the audience below.
The white light hit its target and then flew back into my hand. I cradled the egg in my arms, astonished. I hadn’t expected it to act at that moment.
A flicker of confusion crossed Bai Hong’s eyes as he seemed to ponder why he had failed. Yu Lan’s face turned pale with fury as she charged onto the stage wielding a whip. She kicked Bai Hong down and began to lash him mercilessly.
“Useless! Truly useless!” she shouted. “After all the effort I put into raising you, this is what I get? You’re nothing but a disgrace!”
Bai Hong lay there bloodied and bruised, pleading for mercy. His gaze shifted toward me, filled with confusion and resentment. I ignored his look, focusing instead on taking care of my egg.
Bai Hong’s expression grew increasingly bewildered; it seemed he couldn’t understand why I was disregarding him.
Chen Yuan sneered from the side, “Your Highness, what is your relationship with him? Are you planning to intervene?”
I shook my head, "I have my own child to care for; how can I pay attention to him?"
The resentment in Bai Hong's eyes grew even stronger.
I chose to ignore him. His fate was no longer my concern. He was now abandoned by his mother. My fate was no longer tied to Bai Hong. I was now the Li Clan Consort. All I needed to do was take care of my husband and my child.
I gently touched the egg in my hands. In my past life, when I died, it had not yet hatched. I wondered if I would be able to see it hatch in this life.
Chen Yuan held my hand, our fingers intertwined. "It will hatch."
"Our child will definitely hatch safely."
Upon returning to the Li Clan, I placed the egg in its nest, careful and focused. The shell slowly began to crack. A small boy peeked out, blinking his big eyes at me. I dared not make a sound, fearing I might scare him.
This was my son. My treasure.
I named him Chen Yang. He was my precious one, and I wanted to give him the best of everything in the world. Chen Yuan doted on our son excessively.
Every day in the clan, I busied myself cleaning up after Chen Yang. He would run up mountains and down rivers, causing chaos throughout the clan. I gritted my teeth in frustration but couldn't bring myself to scold him.
One day, after playing hard, Chen Yang returned to the room, his body burning with fever as he mumbled incoherently. "I'm scared; I'm so scared."
Chen Yuan and I were heartbroken. Once his high fever subsided, I finally asked him, "Chen Yang, what happened?"
Chen Yang sniffled and said, "I saw a Blood Pool."
"The pool was filled with young eggs and pregnant women."
"They were raised for a while and then taken out to be bled dry."
"My sister was killed while trying to save me, sob sob."
"I'm scared."
I listened, my heart racing with fear.
I decided to see it for myself.
I brought a team of Carp Guards to the place Chen Yang mentioned.
It was completely deserted.
Only bloodstains covered the ground, along with rusted cages.
That night, Chen Yuan returned home with some bad news.
"Recently, the eggs and young of various clans have been disappearing one after another."
I suddenly recalled what Chen Yang had said.
Could there be some hidden secret behind this?
Chen Yuan frowned and said, "We can't take action yet."
"The Empress is protecting Yu Lan's family; if we act rashly, it could lead to big trouble."
"However, Yu Lan's family is definitely involved."
I replied in a low voice, "But we have no evidence."
Chen Yuan nodded, "That's true."
"That's why I'm holding back."
I sighed, feeling troubled.
Without a breakthrough, how could we proceed?
Chen Yuan patted my head and comforted me, "Don't worry just yet. I may need to enter seclusion for a few days. Once I come out, we'll plan our next steps carefully."
Not long after Chen Yuan entered seclusion, Bai Hong came to me uninvited.
"I have a secret to tell you."
