"I mentioned it last time, as a police officer, your spirit of exploration is lacking. It's unacceptable." 0

Xiao Ying's lips curled into a playful smile as she winked at him. " uncle Zhao, it seems you need to train your new recruits more strictly," she said half-jokingly, her tone laced with teasing. 0

"I really suspect you're doing this on purpose." 0

Wei Jiawei seemed accustomed to her remarks, no longer protesting vigorously. Instead, he muttered with a hint of resignation, a faint smile on his face. 0

Officer Zhao merely smiled gently, trying to ease the tension. "Alright, Jiawei, I remember there are surveillance cameras at the entrance and the elevator. Go check those and bring the footage back to the station." He then turned to Xiao Ying and Xi Yue, concern evident in his voice. "Can you two make it back on your own?" 0

"Absolutely," Xiao Ying replied playfully, giving a little salute with a confident smile. 0

"Then be careful. Xiao Ying, remember to notify me before you act." 0

Officer Zhao's gaze towards Xiao Ying was filled with a fatherly affection. "I'll let you know if I find anything." 0

It was the time when students were getting out of school, and a small cake shop near the school was bustling with activity. 0

The shop was lively, filled with couples enjoying sweet dates and groups of friends chatting and laughing together. 0

Xiao Ying and Xi Yue found themselves at a small table by the window, each with a slice of cake and a drink in front of them. 0

"It's been two days; hasn't there been any news from the police?" Xi Yue asked nervously as she glanced around before leaning closer to Xiao Ying and speaking softly. 0

"Xi Yue, you're too nervous," Xiao Ying said with a smile, her eyes filled with reassurance. She poked a piece of cake with her fork and slowly added, "The police investigation takes time, but I believe Qi Fangyu won't dare to take any action." 0

"Besides, isn't it better that he can't wait to make a move? It saves us the trouble of investigating." As she spoke, she gently patted Xi Yue's hand. 0

"This is a homicide case; I can't be as calm as you, Xiao Ying," Xi Yue sighed slightly, worry etched on her face. 0

"Don't worry; Uncle Zhao will notify me as soon as there's news. Who knows, they might send that clueless rookie over again," Xiao Ying teased, playfully sticking out her tongue. 0

Xi Yue bit on her straw, her eyes sparkling with amusement as she curiously examined Xiao Ying. "Why are you always targeting Wei Jiawei? I find your attitude a bit strange." 0

She tilted her head slightly, a mischievous smile playing on her lips. 0

Xiao Ying shrugged off Xi Yue's comment with a carefree laugh. "You're overthinking it. I just can't stand his cluelessness. If I don't give him a nudge, how will he ever evolve from a rookie into a real cop?" She said this while lightly shrugging her shoulders. 0

Xi Yue merely stirred the water in her cup with the straw, wearing a knowing smile. 0

Suddenly, her eyes lit up with excitement as she pointed outside and gently tapped Xiao Ying's hand. "Isn't that your Rookie Cop?" 0

"What do you mean 'my'?" Xiao Ying immediately retorted, following Xi Yue's gaze to see Wei Jiawei standing not far from the school gate, looking around in confusion. 0

"This guy really can't handle being mentioned," Xiao Ying said as she opened her phone and dialed Wei Jiawei's number. 0

"Are you preparing to abduct innocent college girls?" Xiao Ying teased playfully. 0

It was difficult to see the expression on Wei Jiawei's face as he looked around, seemingly searching for Xiao Ying. 0

His anxious voice came through the microphone, “Hey, am I that kind of person? Officer Zhao sent me to find you. Where are you?” 0

“Look across the street, there's a cake shop with a pink sign about 100 meters from the school gate. We're sitting by the window,” Xiao Ying patiently guided him. 0

Before long, Wei Jiawei pushed open the door of the cake shop and walked in. 0

A sheen of sweat glistened on his forehead, likely from having jogged over in the sweltering afternoon heat. He sat down breathlessly next to Xiao Ying and grabbed a tissue from the table to wipe his sweat. Noticing this, Xiao Ying took a straw from her drink and pushed the cup toward him. 0

Wei Jiawei was momentarily taken aback, clearly not expecting such a gesture from Xiao Ying. 0

Then, without hesitation, he gulped down the drink. 0

Feeling the surprised gazes from Xi Yue and Wei Jiawei, Xiao Ying shrugged her shoulders and explained helplessly, “Look at him, barely able to breathe; how can he talk properly? We have to find a way to help him catch his breath.” 0

“Well, thank you for your kindness,” Wei Jiawei said gratefully after finishing the drink and catching his breath. 0

“Don’t mention it. Now hurry up and tell us why uncle Zhao sent you here,” Xiao Ying urged eagerly. 0

“I’m here to explain the results of the investigation over the past few days—” 0
