"Oh, no, I was just asking casually." Lin Hui seemed to realize her slip and quickly lowered her head, falling silent. Her fingers lightly tapped on the armrest of the sofa, revealing her inner unease.
"Since that's the case, we won't disturb you any longer."
Wei Jiawei said this and glanced at Xiao Ying. Xiao Ying nodded to him, and the two bid farewell to Lin Hui and Ye Xiaoxi before turning to leave.
"What do you think?" As soon as they stepped out of the door, Wei Jiawei eagerly asked Xiao Ying, his eyes filled with confusion. "I found Lin Hui's attitude very strange."
"Exactly. Qi Fangyu has confessed, clearly believing that Lin Hui is the murderer. He is protecting her, but the person Lin Hui wants to protect is not him." Xiao Ying frowned slightly as she pondered aloud.
"Are you saying—" Wei Jiawei looked at Xiao Ying uncertainly, trying to read her expression for answers.
"Has Fan Wei's autopsy report come out yet?" Xiao Ying suddenly changed the subject and asked.
"It should be delivered today."
"Great, let's go find Yu Yuaner." Yu Yuaner was an experienced forensic expert at the police station.
"Going to wait for the autopsy report? Alright, let's hurry back to the station." Wei Jiawei urged.
As they walked, a confident smile appeared on Xiao Ying's face. "But before we look at the autopsy report, there's one more thing."
"What is it?" Wei Jiawei asked curiously, his eyes full of intrigue.
"Let's talk to Qi Fangyu," Xiao Ying said, a glimmer of determination flashing in her eyes.
"Qi Fangyu, when you confessed to us last time, did you forget to mention something?" In the interrogation room, Officer Zhao looked sternly at the silent Qi Fangyu, who was staring down at the table. His gaze was sharp, trying to pierce through Qi Fangyu's facade.
"I've already said everything I can say," Qi Fangyu insisted, his voice low and tinged with stubbornness, though he dared not meet Officer Zhao's eyes.
Officer Zhao pushed several photographs and a list across the table towards Qi Fangyu. The scenes in the photos and the names on the list were clear: "Do you recognize any of these people? If you can't remember, I can remind you. On the night Fan Wei died, you were with them. I don't think I need to elaborate on what you were doing." Officer Zhao's tone carried an air of intimidation.
Qi Fangyu trembled slightly as if struck by electricity. He looked up in shock, his eyes wide with disbelief. But soon, his gaze dimmed again, and he muttered, "So you all know now." His shoulders slumped slightly, as if he had lost all his strength.
"Does this mean you're admitting that you weren't truthful?"
"Some of it is true. Before Lin Hui went on her business trip, Fan Wei and I had planned to spend a few days together. So Fan Wei told her family she was going traveling and packed her bags. But we didn't go to my place; instead, we found a hotel to stay in." Qi Fangyu seemed to finally give up resisting and began to recount the truth.
Xiao Ying nodded and said, "Lin Hui did say that you and Fan Wei were dating outside."
"But the day before Fan Wei died, I got a call from those friends of mine, so I went to their gathering. I didn't return to the hotel until two days later but didn't see Fan Wei. I thought she had gone back in a huff, but strangely enough, her luggage was still there." Qi Fangyu frowned slightly as he struggled to recall the events of that time.
"In a huff?" Officer Zhao keenly picked up on that word and pressed further. "Was it because you left her for the gathering or for another reason?"
"That was part of it, but we had an argument the night before." This time, Qi Fangyu did not hold back and spoke honestly, a look of distress crossing his face.
"What was the reason?"
