"To make people think that the murderer is Qi Fangyu," Ye Xiaoxi replied, a hint of determination flashing in her eyes.
"That day, Hui was on a business trip. If the body was found there, the first suspect would definitely be Qi Fangyu. So I put on a hat, wore a men's coat, and called Fan Wei to meet me at Qi Fangyu's house, saying that Hui had something to convey about the divorce. She came right over."
"And then you killed her?" Wei Jiawei couldn't help but interject, shock written all over his face.
"I didn't even know where I got the strength from. I held onto her tightly, and by the time I realized what was happening, Fan Wei was already dead."
Ye Xiaoxi's voice trembled slightly, fear flickering in her eyes. "I was so scared and confused that I just left the body there. A few days later, I heard Hui say that the police found Fan Wei's body at her house. That's when I realized Qi Fangyu had hidden it."
"What were you and Lin Hui arguing about that day?" Wei Jiawei asked next, leaning forward with curiosity.
"Hui knew it was me as soon as she saw the body."
Ye Xiaoxi lowered her head slightly, her expression dimming. "She understood me and naturally knew why I did it. She said I shouldn't have been so impulsive, but I told her it was all because I loved her, which led to our argument. But we quickly made up. Don't blame Hui; she was just trying to protect me."
Ye Xiaoxi lifted her head, her eyes filled with pleading, hoping for understanding.
As Ye Xiaoxi walked out of the interrogation room, she happened to cross paths with Lin Hui and Qi Fangyu.
When Lin Hui saw Ye Xiaoxi, a flash of pain crossed her eyes. She instinctively wanted to step forward but was gently held back by Qi Fangyu.
Qi Fangyu shook her head slightly, an expression of helplessness and sighing in her gaze.
Lin Hui stopped in his tracks, looking at Ye Xiaoxi. His lips parted slightly, as if he wanted to say something, but in the end, no words came out. Only tears shimmered in his eyes.
Ye Xiaoxi's eyes were slightly red. In her gaze, there was a mix of regret for her mistakes and sorrow at the thought of never being able to be with Lin Hui again.
She bit her lip gently, trying hard not to let the tears fall.
As they watched Qi Fangyu and Lin Hui leave, Wei Jiawei let out a soft sigh, a hint of sentiment in his eyes. "Do you think that after this incident, Qi Fangyu and Lin Hui will be okay?" He turned slightly to look at Xiao Ying, waiting for her response.
"Who knows? Maybe they will, maybe they won't," Xiao Ying replied thoughtfully, gazing at their retreating figures.
She frowned slightly, a hint of melancholy in her expression. "The distance in one's heart is often the farthest. If many things could be openly discussed from the beginning, there wouldn't be so many misunderstandings or the evils that arise from them. But by the time we realize it, it's often too late to mend."
"Do you know who the woman in red in Qi Fangyu's painting is?"
Wei Jiawei seemed to want to change the subject. "She doesn't seem to be Fan Wei, but she isn't Lin Hui either."
"Perhaps she's just an image in his heart; there may not be such a person. She lives forever in a beautiful illusion."
Xiao Ying tilted her head slightly back, her gaze becoming somewhat vacant as if contemplating the complexities of human nature and emotions.
After hearing Xiao Ying's words, Wei Jiawei didn't respond further. He simply joined her in silently watching the direction where Qi Fangyu and Lin Hui had left, both lost in thought about the various aspects behind this case.
