However, after counting the money, Su Mingxian realized a problem.
The Foreign Sales Housing was obviously meant for foreigners and overseas Chinese, so it naturally used Dollars. Did that mean the price Xi Shanshan quoted her was also in Dollars?
At this thought, Su Mingxian was left dumbfounded.
The current exchange rate for the Dollar was reaching one to eight. Goodness—
Two hundred million?
What would two hundred million look like at this time? Su Mingxian stared blankly at Shen Chi.
Shen Chi looked back at her, puzzled. "What's wrong?"
Su Mingxian quickly shook her head, dismissing it. It was nothing, nothing at all. This really was a big shot.
Weren't they just starting out? Were they actually launching a rocket?
...
Early the next morning, Xi Shanshan called.
"Sister Xian, the price application is ready! When are you coming over?"
Su Mingxian felt a bit heavy-hearted as she glanced at Shen Chi playing with the child. She quietly asked, "Shanshan, was the housing price you mentioned yesterday in Renminbi or Dollars?"
Xi Shanshan paused for a moment. "Of course it's in Dollars, Sister Xian. This is Foreign Sales Housing."
Su Mingxian felt a wave of embarrassment wash over her.
After a long pause, Xi Shanshan blinked cautiously and said, "Sister Xian, you don't think it's in Renminbi, do you? That would be quite a difference."
Su Mingxian couldn't help but twitch her lips. "I was just asking. By the way, I'll go over to make the payment shortly. Will you be there?"
"Of course! Just come directly, Sister Xian!" Xi Shanshan exclaimed excitedly before hanging up. She had finally sold her first house.
Once the call ended, Su Mingxian let out a deep breath. Thankfully, she had accepted Shen Chi's kindness yesterday; otherwise, she would have been crying and feeling utterly humiliated.
No wonder people called her a miser; it was true—
Shen Chi had exceptional hearing and had clearly overheard Su Mingxian's conversation. Seeing her look so dejected inexplicably made him smile.
This was becoming increasingly amusing.
Noticing Shen Chi smiling, Qian Qian quickly approached him and said cautiously, "Daddy, can you come home earlier in the future? My brother and I want to have dinner with you."
After a brief pause, she added softly, "Mommy wants to as well."
Seeing his daughter's adorable expression melted Shen Chi's heart. "If you miss Daddy, you can actually call me anytime."
The little one’s eyes lit up at that.
Meanwhile, Su Mingxian hung up the phone with a sigh of disappointment, only to turn around and find the father and daughter whispering together in a secretive manner.
"What are you two up to?"
The sudden voice startled Qian Qian. "Mom, I didn't tell Dad that you want him to come back for dinner."
Upon hearing this, Su Mingxian's face darkened, and when she looked at Shen Chi, who was filled with confusion, she felt even worse.
"Children shouldn't talk nonsense."
Qian Qian pouted, "I’m not talking nonsense. Mom really wants Dad; she cried thinking about him."
Su Mingxian thought to herself: ...Is that really what I wanted? I was clearly upset because of you.
Seeing Su Mingxian about to lose her temper, Shen Chi quickly cleared his throat. "When are we going?"
With the topic diverted, Su Mingxian managed to calm down. "After we drop them off at kindergarten, we’ll head out."
...
As stacks of dollars were laid out, the woman at the sales office who had laughed at Su Mingxian was left speechless. When she glanced at Shen Chi beside Su Mingxian, she felt like she might shatter her own teeth from clenching them so hard.
Meanwhile, Xi Shanshan was overjoyed. "Sister Xian, it’s so great that you’re here! I thought you weren’t going to buy after all. This is the first house I've ever sold in my life! Let’s celebrate with a nice meal; it’s on me today!"
