Caught off guard by Tao Guiying's sudden embrace, Li Qiang was momentarily stunned. However, he quickly became aware of the warmth radiating from their bodies as they pressed together, feeling the softness of her form against him.
Though Li Qiang had often harbored secret desires for the charming widow, his compassion for her plight had always held him back from any inappropriate thoughts about this unfortunate woman.
But now, with Tao Guiying clinging to him so fiercely, he found himself at a loss, unsure of where to place his hands.
"Aunt, are you... alright?" Li Qiang asked weakly.
"Ugh..." The only response he received was a soft whimper from Tao Guiying, her body trembling as she cried.
Tao Guiying felt an overwhelming sense of despair. Sold to Nanping Village as a bride to bring joy to a sickly man who was over a decade her senior, she had witnessed her husband die on their wedding night due to tuberculosis. Since then, she had become the object of scorn and disdain in the entire village.
She was seen as a harbinger of misfortune, cursed with a fate that brought ruin to men. Even her own family believed she was a jinx and chose to sever ties with her.
For years, she had endured taunts and humiliation from the village's ruffians, but it had only been verbal abuse; no one dared to touch her, fearing that they might meet the same fate as her deceased husband. Those troublemakers often bullied her without consequence.
Yet today, someone had stepped forward to defend her. The feeling of being protected stirred up years of pent-up grievances within her, leading to an uncontrollable outburst of tears.
After crying for a while, Li Qiang's body, freshly bathed, became drenched in sweat from the emotional intensity. It seemed that Tao Guiying also realized her behavior was inappropriate; she quickly released him, wiping away her tears as she stammered, "Qiang Zi, I'm... I'm sorry... I..."
Seeing Tao Guiying's tear-streaked face filled Li Qiang with an inexplicable pang in his heart. The strong sense of responsibility and compassion that surged within him compelled him to wrap his arms around her slender waist.
"Ah!" A startled gasp escaped Tao Guiying's lips as she felt his embrace. The unexpected sensation sent warmth flooding through her chest, and her fair cheeks flushed a deep crimson that spread down to her neck.
"I'm going to protect you from now on, Aunt!" Li Qiang said with a burning gaze, devoid of any lust.
Li Qiang was no great hero; he was just a small farmer who wanted to make a living. However, seeing such a vulnerable woman being bullied stirred a deep sense of sympathy within him, compelling him to declare his intention to protect Tao Guiying.
"Qiang... you... let go of me!" Although she was married, Tao Guiying was still an innocent woman who had never been touched by any man over the years. Suddenly being embraced by a man made her feel instinctively shy.
Noticing Tao Guiying's discomfort, Li Qiang snapped back to reality and realized that the woman he was holding was exceptionally beautiful. She had a lovely figure, though perhaps a bit thin due to her difficult living conditions. This slenderness only added to her delicate charm and made her seem even more endearing.
Their bodies were pressed tightly together, and once Li Qiang regained his senses, he felt his arousal pressing against Tao Guiying's abdomen. She squirmed slightly, the sensation causing Li Qiang to almost lose control.
"Qiang Zi... you..." Though still innocent, Tao Guiying was a married woman and knew well what that thick and long object pressing against her belly was. The innate allure in her demeanor, especially the seductive glimmer in her big, watery eyes, sent shivers down Li Qiang's spine.
"Aunt, you are truly beautiful!" Li Qiang swallowed hard and couldn't help but compliment her.
"Qiang Zi, please don't do this!" Tao Guiying turned her head away, desperately trying to escape from the intimidating presence below. How could something so large belong to someone so young? The thought of it entering her body filled her with dread. As she considered her own shamelessness, her face flushed even deeper with shame, and tears began to well up in her eyes.
Seeing that Tao Guiying looked like she might cry, Li Qiang quickly released her and said awkwardly, "Aunt, I'm sorry! I... I couldn't help myself!"
Once freed from his grasp, Tao Guiying felt as if something important had been taken from her. Looking down, she murmured, "I... I should go back now." After a pause, she quietly thanked him before turning and running away.
Watching the graceful figure of Aunt Guiying flee in haste, Li Qiang chuckled softly and inhaled the lingering fragrance on his hands. "Aunt Guiying, don't worry; no one will bully you except me from now on."
With that said, Li Qiang grinned and picked up the watermelon on the ground as he headed towards Guo Yuzhen's house.
Li Qiang was quite familiar with the small shop owned by Guo Yuzhen. Of course, this familiarity didn’t stem from any knowledge of Guo Yuzhen’s waterway dealings; rather, it was due to his frequent visits to the shop to buy snacks and toys.
As he strolled along the cobblestone path of the village, holding a watermelon in his arms, he made his way leisurely toward the shop. However, before he could reach Guo Yuzhen's small store, he noticed that it was surrounded by a crowd of villagers, all pointing and whispering to one another as if discussing something important.
Li Qiang’s heart sank as he heard the sounds of a woman crying and shouting from inside the shop, accompanied by the wails of a child. He could also hear a man cursing angrily within the house.
“What’s going on in there, Hu Er Niu?” Li Qiang asked, spotting the idle onlooker Hu Er Niu nearby.
Hu Er Niu grinned upon seeing Li Qiang and replied, “What’s happening? That bastard Ge Jia Ping is back and apparently wants a divorce!”
“Why?” Li Qiang was genuinely taken aback.
“Why?” Hu Er Niu scoffed. “Guo Yuzhen has been taking care of that foolish boy Xiao Fei all these years without any sign of pregnancy. I heard that Ge Jia Ping has been fooling around with some woman in the city. But honestly, I think there’s something off about him; Ge Jia Ping is just a coward. That woman in the city must be blind to fall for such a useless softie… Anyway, Qiang Zi, I’m not done yet!”
Fuming with anger, Li Qiang clutched the watermelon tighter and marched toward the small shop.
