Book Synopsis
Xiang Yu, born in 232 BC and passing in 202 BC, was originally named Jì and styled Yǔ. He rose to prominence during the late Qing period alongside Xiang Liang, leading the Kuaiji Uprising. In the decisive Battle of Jiulu in 207 BC, he dealt a crushing defeat to the main forces of the Qin Army.
After the fall of the Qin Dynasty, he declared himself the Hegemon-King of Western Chu, ruling over the Yellow River and the lower reaches of the Yangtze River, as well as the Nine Prefectures of Chu.
Later, during the Chu-Han Contention, he was defeated by Liu Bang, the King of Han. At the Wu River, he performed a legendary farewell to his lifelong love, Yu Ji, in a poignant scene that has been celebrated throughout history.
