Book Synopsis
Ling Yuan was determined to marry Leng Xiao, and even the Ling Family Patriarch's threat to sever ties could not dissuade her from her decision.
The Ling Family hired someone to teach Leng Xiao a lesson, but upon learning this, Ling Yuan tearfully bid farewell to her parents and resolutely left with Leng Xiao.
The wedding was exceedingly simple, consisting of just a table of food and two witnesses. After performing the three bows to heaven and earth, Ling Yuan became the bride of the Leng Family.
On their wedding night, as Leng Xiao looked at her in her coarse wedding garment, his eyes were filled with pain and reluctance. He solemnly promised, "I will never betray your deep affection."
The Ling Family was a wealthy household, while he was merely a poor scholar. Despite the vast disparity in their fortunes, akin to the difference between clouds and mud, it could not hinder their deep love for one another.
Ling Yuan smiled gently and said softly, "I have entrusted my entire life to you, Mister."
When they first met, he was a refined Traveling Painting Vendor, upright and courteous. She had sent someone to invite him to paint her portrait, intending to send it to a matchmaker. However, upon seeing the picture, her heart stirred slightly.
In that painting, tenderness and affection seemed to flow from the brushstrokes, vividly brought to life on paper.
What she desired was not wealth or splendor but a simple and peaceful life together, where husband and wife lived harmoniously. She believed that this was what constituted a good life.
Yet one day, everything began to transform into an illusion…
