Book Synopsis
The first time Yao Nian met Shen Du, she realized that the phrase "not of this world" could indeed be applied to a man—especially one who was a friend of her father's. The man's eyes sparkled with a smile, leaving an indelible mark on her heart. Finally mustering the courage to approach him, she found that there was no longer a place for her by his side. She regretted not being able to grow up a little more, regretted not being able to tell him face-to-face just how much she liked him.
"How could I dare to love the moon? Even if it illuminated me for a moment, it hangs high in the sky, not just my light alone."
"You ask me why I treat you so well. I've thought about it all night and couldn't find another reason; the only answer is—" The man's Adam's apple moved slightly as he spoke slowly yet firmly, "Because I like you, so I want to treat you well."
The girl forced herself to lower her raised brows and insisted, "You've already treated me well enough."
"Then let me put it another way."
"Little girl, would you like to be with me?"
His words landed heavily in the air. The sound of wind and snow faded away, leaving only a buzzing in her ears and an overwhelming silence around them. She had once thought that she would never be able to have someone as wonderful as him in her life. But in that moment, all her longings blossomed like fireworks that had erupted the night before, grand and resounding.
